HELLBOY II: THE GOLDEN ARMY begs any number of referential mash-ups to be used as description of its outlandish tonal and stylistic qualities. It's a little like a romantic and sophisticated live-action Ninja Turtles movie imbued with a cracked version of H.P. Lovecraft's monster storytelling. It's a feature-length version of STAR WARS's Mos Eisley Cantina mixed with a scrappy, proficient passion for creature design reminiscent of Ray Harryhausen. It's also kind of director/co-writer Guillermo del Toro's HELLBOY (2004) wrapped in a blanket of his PAN'S LABYRINTH. This sequel is all these things, but none of them can accurately capture the singularity of a movie which, in some ways, stands alone in its ability to capture the crass and literary luridness of reading a comic book. It's filled with gross creatures bursting with humanity, dark poetry, and slapstick comedy; in one scene, an argument between Hellboy and Johann Krauss, a formless gas contained in a mobilized suit, escalates to the point of Tom-&-Jerry-like violence. As Hellboy himself, a heartfelt anti-hero who regularly eliminates supernatural threat as an agent for the U.S. Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense alongside girlfriend Liz (Selma Blair) and comrade Abe Sapien, Ron Perlman again embodies the role with the kind of pathos and humor that one can only expect from a horned, red-skinned Hell-spawn who loves kittens and acts like a hardboiled detective who happens to watch TV and drink a lot of canned beer. HELLBOY II's rather interesting antagonist, Prince Nuada, isn't just an evil dude. In the mold of the complex villains typically found in Hayao Miyazaki's animated fairy tales, his intentions of restoring control over Earth to an Elvish race by regaining the key to unlock the indestructible Golden Army are at least based on a legitimately noble sentiment before megalomania kicks in.

Hellboy II: The Golden Army Reviews:

"[A] hard-driving psychedelic action-movie fantasia....del Toro stages all of the action brilliantly....Dazzling..." -- Grade: B+-- Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly

"[A] breeze to watch...constantly inventive in its monsters and always ironic..."-- Michael Atkinson, Sight and Sound

4 stars out of 5 -- "There is plenty of action....Del Toro's fondness for the macabre, and for clockwork, colour this film in a way that's instantly recognisable."-- Helen O'Hara, Empire

"[The film] arrives with stunningly beautiful set pieces, alien creatures that would make George Lucas catch his breath, and a color palette so bright and wondrous as to take your breath away."-- Stuart Levine, Premiere

4 stars out of 5 -- "[T]here's more poetry and subtext than is typical for a comic-book movie, with themes of fertility, maturity and mortality laced throughout the slam-bang action set-pieces."-- Mark Salisbury, Total Film

"[HELLBOY II] delivers plenty of inventive thrills....The action is well-paced, the production design striking and the creatures and special effects spectacular. Del Toro is an extraordinary visual stylist..."-- Claudia Puig, USA Today

"[A]live with fantasy and invention. To see this film, beautifully shot by Guillermo Navarro, is to truly feel you've entered another world, filled with nightmarish things both unimaginable and indescribable."-- Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times

"The story of HELLBOY 2 is a happy hodgepodge of bantering humor and portentous metaphysics, packing a remarkable range of moods and genre elements into a fairly compact 110 minutes."-- A. O. Scott, New York Times

The fate of billions hangs in the balance as Hellboy, the world's greatest paranormal investigator, takes on horrific monsters, zombie-Nazis and the impending Apocalypse. Special Edition DVD is loaded with extra features, including deleted scenes, audio commentaries from the writer/director and cast members, "All New DVD Comics": a never-been-done DVD feature including 8 branching DVD Comics by Mike Mignola, lots more.

Based on the comic book series by Mike Mignola, Guillermo del Toro's gleefully eccentric film follows the supernatural adventures of Hellboy (Ron Perlman), a cigar-chomping, horn-filing demonic hero enlisted by an occult scholar (John Hurt) to fight evil in the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense. Along with the fire-throwing Liz Sherman (Selma Blair) and the amphibious psychic Abe Sapien (Doug Jones, with the voice of David Hyde Pierce), Hellboy is joined by new recruit John Myers (Rupert Evans), a squeaky-clean FBI agent assigned to keep the big red devil's exploits in check. Things get out of hand, however, when a vicious monster is unleashed by the villainous Rasputin (Karl Roden), leading to events that may set off an apocalyptic nightmare for humanity. Echoing Peter Jackson's passion for THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy, HELLBOY is a labor of love from del Toro, a longtime fan of the comic and its creator. The director's enthusiasm shows, since HELLBOY is a wondrously strange slice of pulpy adventure, mixed with horror and humor, and enhanced by stunning visual effects. In the title role (and lots of red makeup), Perlman is pitch-perfect, giving the good-natured misfit a powerful--yet surprisingly sensitive--presence. Blair, Evans, Hurt, and other actors are similarly well cast, rounding out an ensemble intent on retaining the movie's dark yet superbly entertaining tone.

Theatrical Release: APRIL 2, 2004

Hellboy Reviews:

"The bad guys have great looks....HELLBOY succeeds because it brings the visuals from the page to life with a beating red heart." -- Kim Newman, Sight and Sound

"Perlman is outstanding....Over-the-top fun..." -- Andrew Sumner, Uncut

"HELLBOY is engaging." -- Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly

"Mr. del Toro lets loose with an all-American, vaudevillian rambunctiousness that makes the movie daffy, loose and lovable."-- Elvis Mitchell, New York Times

"There's no shortage of slick special effects and rampaging monsters here. Yet what catches the eye and captures the imagination is the lovingly hand-crafted feel of the design..."-- Manohla Dargis, Los Angeles Times

"Guillermo del Toro has crafted a fiery action picture destined to please comics fans..."-- Claudia Puig, USA Today

"It's vibrating with energy, and you can sense the zeal and joy in its making."-- Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

"[A]n engaging supernatural action film....It's easy to be captivated by del Toro's style and the film's overall panache." -- Wade Major, Box Office

Disney fashions a modern-day icon of girl power with its animated adaptation of the 2,000-year-old Chinese folktale MULAN. When barbarous Huns attack ancient China, the fiercely independent Mulan (voiced by Ming-Na Wen) defies tradition by disguising herself as a man in order to take her ailing father's place in the Imperial Army. With the help of Mushu (voiced by the resilient and newly kid-friendly Eddie Murphy), a wisecracking guardian dragon sent by her ancestors for protection, Mulan trains in boot camp and then heads off to face the brutal Hun leader Shan-Yu (voiced by Miguel Ferrer)--all the while struggling to keep her gender identity a secret. Chock full of the usual Disney delights--breathtaking visuals, catchy songs, and an inspirational protagonist of courage and conviction--MULAN is a welcome addition to the studio's annals of classic animation.

Theatrical release: June 19, 1998. MULAN is the 36th full-length animated feature from Walt Disney Pictures.

In this meet-the-parents sequel to the romantic fairy tale in which two ogres fall in love, SHREK 2 brings the loveable green menace (voiced by Mike Meyers) back to the big screen for a second round of mischief. This time around, in addition to the voices of Cameron Diaz (as Shrek's sweetheart Fiona) and Eddie Murphy (as their companion Donkey), Julie Andrews and John Cleese chime in as Fiona's parents, Queen Lillian and King Harold. Surprising newcomer Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas)--a slyly funny tabby honed for swashbuckling adventure--joins the crew. Last but certainly not least, the conniving duo of vain Prince Charming (Rupert Everett) and his power-hungry mom, the Fairy Godmother (Jennifer Saunders), spice up the action. When Fiona insists that her new husband Shrek visit her parents, they travel to Far Far Away (a Disneyfied medieval version of Hollywood) where everything goes wrong. The King and Queen are outraged to see their daughter married to an ogre, and while Fiona tries to calm them, Shrek sets out to find a solution. He finds it, in the form of a Happily Ever After potion, which only complicates matters, drawing all parties into a confused exchange of magic and spells, all for the sake of true love. With shimmering animation giving SHREK 2 near-3-D visuals, the witty scripting and eclectic pop music soundtrack keep the film hopping along with an upbeat pace. "Holding Out for a Hero" by Frou Frou, and "Livin' la Vida Loca" by Eddie Murphy are the most raucous of the film's many great songs, though more subtle numbers such as "Accidentally in Love" by Counting Crows, and "Little Drop of Poison" by Tom Waits certainly enrich some key scenes of this enjoyable family film.

Shrek 2 Reviews:

"[I]t's got heart and delirium in equal doses, as well as a firecracker rhythm all its own." -- Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly

"SHREK 2 is double the fun of the original: more magical and more technically assured." -- Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

"Mr. Banderas's campy suavity and Puss's convincingly animated fur add some new looks and rhythms to the formula."-- A. O. Scott, New York Times

"[With] more elaborate visuals than the original and some great voice casting."-- Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times

"[J]ust as funny, sweet and engaging as the first film starring the big galoot."-- Claudia Puig, USA Today

"SHREK 2 is bright, lively and entertaining..."-- Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

"SHREK 2 is great." -- Steve Sutherland, Uncut

"[M]uch of the humour remains gleefully satirical." -- Matthew Leyland, Sight and Sound

"[A] gem in the bigger-better-snappier tradition of TOY STORY 2." -- Sara Brady, Premiere

Set in a strange, colorful land populated by fairy tale characters, SHREK is a hilarious comedy that will win over audiences of children and adults alike. Shrek (voiced by Mike Myers) is a fearsome green ogre living in isolation in his own cozy little swamp. He is not receptive to visitors, and fends off the occasional party of torch-wielding villagers with ease. But when the power-hungry Lord Farquaad (John Lithgow) turns Shrek's swamp into a relocation camp for dozens of banished fairy-tale characters (including some pesky dwarves, wolves, and fairies) Shrek's quiet, introverted life is ruined. Joined by the talkative Donkey (Eddie Murphy), Shrek makes his way to Farquaad's realm of Duloc, where the Lord promises makes Shrek and offer: He will rid Shrek's land of the unwanted visitors if Shrek will go on a simple quest to free Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz) from her remote, dragon-guarded castle and convince her to marry Farquaad. On their quest, Shrek and Donkey run into a number of bizarre situations, and Shrek finds himself realizing that he isn't quite the fearsome monster he has always made himself out to be. Reinventing the traditional fairy tale adventure, SHREK features gorgeous computer animation, a unique sense of humor, and compelling characters--especially Eddie Murphy's lovable Donkey.

Theatrical release: May 18, 2001

This animated film features vocal talent of Martin Lawrence, Ashton Kutcher, Gary Sinise, and Debra Messing. Also included is an exclusive all-new animated short: Boog and Elliot's Midnight Bun Run.OPEN SEASON, an animated action-adventure, follows the fortunes of two forest-animal misfits. Boog (Martin Lawrence) is a gentle and domesticated bear; Elliot (Ashton Kutcher) is an absentminded and accident-prone deer who has been shunned by his herd. Together, they struggle to adapt to the ways of life in the wild and on their own. Boog longs to return to the cushy conditions he had with Beth (Debra Messing), an animal-loving park ranger who rescued him and raised him as a pet from the time he was a cub. Desperate to please his new friend, who spared him from an overzealous hunter (Gary Sinise), Elliot tries to help lead Boog back to the mountainside town, but instead they are met with hostility by their fellow forest creatures, including a combative squirrel, McSquizzy (Billy Connelly); a perfectionist beaver, Reilly (Jon Favreau); and a machismo-fueled deer, Ian (Patrick Warburton), who is Elliot's nemesis. Now, with hunting season upon them, they must all align to defend themselves against the hunters that annually plague their domain. While obviously geared toward kids, OPEN SEASON covers quite a few adult themes, including the comparison of man and beast. By pitting animals against hunters, the film operates from a pro-animal and pro-environment stance. It also conveys the importance of getting along with those different from ourselves, and encourages teamwork and acceptance of others. The PG-rated film includes some mature references, including rude humor and mild violence, but overall offers entertainment appropriate for the whole family.

Theatrical Release: September 29, 2006

"[A] set-piece involving a huge flood is suitably dynamic, and there's a suspenseful sequence when Boog finds he's stumbled into the house of his hunter-nemesis."-- Andrew Osmond, Sight and Sound

In TOMORROW NEVER DIES, British super-spy James Bond (Pierce Brosnan) goes after a ruthless media baron, Elliot Carver--an amalgam of Ted Turner, Rupert Murdoch, and Bill Gates--played with feisty aplomb by Jonathan Pryce. Carver's diabolical plan is to instigate World War III so that his empire can obtain exclusive coverage (a la CNN during the Gulf War). This time, 007 must endure the sorrow of love lost as he shares a nostalgic interlude with his ex-lover Paris (Teri Hatcher) who is now married to his nemesis, Carver. He also discovers a worthwhile partner in a female Chinese counterpart, Wai Lin (Hong Kong action diva Michelle Yeoh). Noteworthy for its unabashed commercial product placement, TOMORROW NEVER DIES follows the sharp direction of Roger Spottiswoode.

Theatrical release date: December 17, 1997. Sheryl Crow's title song was nominated for a Golden Globe. K.D. Lang's "Surrender" was also a popular addition to the soundtrack. TOMORROW NEVER DIES was filmed in Bangkok, Hamburg, the Pyrenees, and Mexico. Bond drives a BMW that is loaded with spy gadgets. It has a remote control auto-pilot activated by 007's phone, it shoots rockets from its sun roof, its tires re-inflate when popped, it releases tear gas, it has a safe in the glove compartment, and it has voice command (predictably, a sexy female voice.) Bond girl Wai Lin is likewise equipped with some special high-tech tools. She has a full arsenal of weapons and armor, hidden behind sliding walls. She uses a knife that looks like a simple fan. And she uses a disguised flame-thrower.

Tomorrow Never Dies Reviews:

"...TOMORROW NEVER DIES has non-stop action, a dash of glamour, and some witty dialogue..." -- Jose Arroyo, Sight and Sound

"...The fastest, loudest Bond ever..." -- Michael Sauter, Entertainment Weekly

"...TOMORROW NEVER DIES gets the job done, sometimes excitingly, often with style....There's gorgeous photography...and astonishing action cinematography..." -- Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

Directed by Martin Campbell, GOLDENEYE makes the transition to a more modern image for the James Bond series. Bond's out-of-date womanizing is presented with a feminist challenge from the newly cast Judi Dench as an impenetrable M, and Samantha Bond as a wiser and more forthright Moneypenny. The action sequences, replete with helicopter hijinks and copious explosions, are complex and stylish, making the film a polished sensation. This installment in the series introduces actor Pierce Brosnan in the role of suave, debonair, irresistible 007. Despite the end of the Cold War, James Bond still finds himself pitted against nefarious Russians who want to rule the world. This time around, his enemies are a gang of mobsters and former military men who have gained access to the Goldeneye, which can cut off electrical currents in London. Alec Trevelyan (Sean Bean) is the leader, with General Ourumov (Gottfried John) an additional threat. Sizzling Bond babe Xenia Onatopp (Famke Janssen) is the sleek robber who, with Ourumov, successfully steals the Goldeneye, which the villains plan to use in their quest to control financial markets around the globe. However, this grizzly group of scoundrels is no match for Bond, who constantly outwits their attempts to assassinate him. Bond rescues the tough and lovely Natalya Simonova (Izabella Scorupco), who was caught in Trevalyan's deadly web, and she eventually helps Bond turn the tables on his foes as he uses his quick instincts, innovative weapons, and cool gadgetry to save the day.

World theatrical premiere at Radio City Music Hall in New York City: November 13, 1995. The film received its wide theatrical release November 17, 1995. It went on to make over $100 million at the box office, and was the 8th highest grossing film of 1995. The budget for the film was $50 million. Bond drives a BMW Z3, equipped with radar, stinger missiles, and parachute brakes. The enemy, Trevelyan, has two high-tech vehicles: his Tiger helicopter, which resists all electronic signals; and his missile train, which is also his headquarters. The majority of the film was shot in Leavesden, near London. "Goldeneye" was the name of author Ian Fleming's Jamaican home. GOLDENEYE is the first film to be shot at England's Leavesden Studios, which was made from the remnants of a wartime aircraft factory owned by Rolls Royce. Roger Moore's son, Christian, was a third assistant director on the film.

Goldeneye Quotes/Excerpts:

"I think you're a sexist, misogynist dinosaur, a relic of the Cold War." -- 007's female boss M (JUDI DENCH), to Bond himself (PIERCE BROSNAN).

Goldeneye Reviews:

"...The best bit of Bond-age since Sean Connery....GOLDENEYE's vision is 20/20 when it comes to reviving a legend..." -- 3 1/2 out of 4 stars -- Susan Wloszczyna, USA Today

"...State-of-the-art stunt work, a brouhaha about weapons systems in space...and gorgeous, super-competent female sidekicks....[Brosnan] puts a much-needed glint in GOLDENEYE." -- Rating: B -- Glenn Kenny, Entertainment Weekly

"...A dynamic action entry in its own right....Brosnan makes the grade as 007. He handles the action capably..." -- Todd McCarthy, Variety

Popular video game character Lara Croft returns to the big screen in this sequel to LARA CROFT: TOMB RAIDER. Intrepid British archaeologist Lara Croft (Angelina Jolie) has made perhaps the most important archaeological discovery in history: an orb that leads to the mythical Pandora's Box. Unfortunately, the orb falls into the hands of Jonathan Reiss (Ciaran Hinds), an evil scientist who deals in killer viruses and hopes to sell the secrets of the box as the ultimate weapon. Recruited by British Intelligence to get the orb back from Reiss, Lara enlists Terry Sheridan (Gerard Butler), a British marine turned mercenary--and her former love interest--to help. The two embark on an adventure that spans continents in an attempt to regain the orb. Lara is a walking advertisement for "girl power." She's brilliant, athletic, courageous, and saucy. She flips jet skis, parachutes to safety from tall buildings, dives, rides horses--nothing seems beyond her. Best of all, Lara is one of the good ones--she'll do whatever she must to keep the world safe. Directed by Jan de Bont, this film was shot on location in Greece, Kenya, Hong Kong, England, and Wales.

Angelina Jolie stars as Lara Croft, a tough, sexy, heavily armed adventurer, in this action film based on the wildly popular video game series of the same name. When mercenaries invade her cavernous, hi-tech mansion and steal an ancient relic, Lara journeys to various international locations, including Cambodia, Italy, and the Arctic Circle, to retrieve the strange object and discover its mysterious properties. As Lara's quest becomes increasingly dangerous, it begins to shed light on the life of her deceased father, Lord Croft (Jon Voight, Jolie's real-life father), and a secretive group known as the Illuminati. Director Simon West's film boasts an energetic techno soundtrack and a charming performance by Jolie, who blasts her way past various monsters, villains, and pitfalls, smirking all the while. (In one of the film's most memorable sequences, she battles dozens of deadly assassins while suspended from a bungee cord in her pajamas.) Perfectly cast as the voluptuous heroine (and sporting a fine British accent), Jolie's commanding presence carries this fast-paced blockbuster, which will appeal to hardcore video game junkies and action movie fans alike.

When Indy's archaeologist dad, Prof. Henry Jones, embarks on a quest for the Holy Grail, he is kidnapped by the Nazis, who also desire the priceless chalice. Naturally, Indy comes to the rescue, joining his father in the search for the Grail. The audience is in for a wild ride "keeping up with the Joneses" as the two men battle enemies, trade insults, encounter rats, evade traps, become involved with the same woman, and meet Hitler. The film is a loose retelling of the Parsifal myth.

Steven Spielberg's third action-packed entry in the Indiana Jones trilogy evokes the cliffhanger Saturday matinee serials of yesteryear. It's 1938 and Indy (Harrison Ford) receives word that his archaeologist dad, Professor Henry Jones (Sean Connery), has disappeared while on a quest for the Holy Grail. Indy embarks on a search for both his dad and the much-coveted artifact. THE LAST CRUSADE has a unique twist to the series' traditional opening-sequence cliffhanger. Actor River Phoenix plays an adolescent Indy who, while on a field trip with his Boy Scout troop, finds adventure on a circus train. Spielberg wanted to make the film about a father-and-son relationship, and Connery was his first choice to play Indy's dad. The selection was perfect, considering Spielberg and producer George Lucas first came up with the idea of the series as a rival to the James Bond movies in which Connery had starred. Before shooting THE LAST CRUSADE, Spielberg was planning on directing RAIN MAN with Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise but gave up the project to fulfill his contractual obligation with Lucas to make a third Indiana Jones movie.

Theatrical release: May 24, 1989. The film was shot at the EMI-Elstree Studios in England and on location in Texas, Utah, California, Colorado, New Mexico, Italy, Germany, Jordan, and Spain. The film made nearly $200 million at the domestic box office and nearly $500 million worldwide. Harrison Ford and River Phoenix acted together once before in a film--as father and son in 1986's MOSQUITO COAST.

Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade Reviews:

"...The wildest and wittiest Indy of them all....Ford and Connery make a sensational team; their relationship charges the film..." -- Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

"...In its own way THE LAST CRUSADE is nearly as good [as RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK], matching its audience's wildest hopes....Boisterous adventure..." -- Caryn James, New York Times

"...Harrison Ford is still in top form..." -- Sheila Benson, Los Angeles Times

Harrison Ford dusts off his infamous brown fedora for another Indiana Jones film, which is once again made by Steven Spielberg and George Lucas. The year is 1957, and Indy is on the run from a team of Russian spies led by a rapier-wielding Irina Spalko (Cate Blanchett). The Russians want Indy to help them locate an ancient artifact that they believe can be used as the ultimate military weapon. Indy manages a narrow escape, and tries to return to his life as a professor of archaeology, but he soon bumps into a '50s greaser named Mutt (Shia LeBeouf). Mutt's mother as well as one of Indy's longtime friends have been captured somewhere in Peru. Mutt and Indy hop a plane, where they manage to track down both Mutt's mother, Marian (Karen Allen), and Professor Oxley (John Hurt), but they also find themselves surrounded by the same scheming Russians. The Russians have found the artifact they were seeking, but Indy now knows its secret and dangerous powers. With the help of Mutt, Marian, and Oxley, he races to return it to its rightful resting place. While a bit more grizzled than the last time we saw him cracking his whip, Ford still manages to bring the right mix of humor and swagger to Indy. Longtime fans are sure to love the many inside jokes and nods to the previous films, as well as the reappearance of some favorite old characters. While CRYSTAL SKULL has the same exotic locales and wild chases of the earlier movies, it definitely sets itself apart with its heavy use of CGI. The visuals are indeed impressive, but some might feel something is lost when Indy can outrun an atomic bomb just as easily as he can a swarm of carnivorous ants. This modern-day Indy is easy entertainment with some fun surprises, but it will likely divide diehard fans right down the middle.

Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull Reviews:

3.5 stars out of 4 -- "[H]is witty banter is still decidedly intact....The excitement picks back up and, overall, it's pleasantly nostalgic to see Harrison Ford as Jones again....The stunts and special effects are spectacular..."-- Claudia Puig, USA Today

"At its best, it's a satisfying shuffle of the deck of famous Spielbergian moments....The first 20 minutes, especially, are a blast of old-timey pleasure..."-- Lisa Schwarzbaum, Entertainment Weekly

The continuing saga of Indiana Jones, occuring chronologically before RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, finds Indy venturing into India in search of magical stones. Along the way he tries to save hundreds of children enslaved by a leftover Thugee cult. Of all the series, this one plays most like the Saturday serials to which George Lucas and Steven Spielberg were paying homage.

Filmmaker Steven Spielberg returns as director for this rip-roaring prequel to 1981's smash hit RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK. Here dashing, whip-wielding archaeologist-adventurer Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) is joined by comely chanteuse Willie (Kate Capshaw) and a 12-year-old sidekick named Short Round (Ke Huy Quan). Together they search for a mystical stone stolen from an Indian community and stumble upon a dangerous Thuggee cult. Exotic locales, wild chases, death-defying cliffhangers, last-minute rescues, screaming damsels, and tribal sacrifices are the order of the day as the threesome attempt to acquire the stolen stone. A few scenes originally planned for RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK showed up in INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM--most notably the mine chase sequence, which was part of the 80 percent of TEMPLE OF DOOM shot on a soundstage. After the film's release, the MPAA's Classification & Ratings Board created a new rating--PG-13. Spielberg cast actress Kate Capshaw, who would later become his real-life wife, for the film.

Theatrical release: May 23, 1984. The film was shot in Sri Lanka, Macao, northern California, Arizona, Idaho, Florida, and the soundstages at EMI-Elstree Studios in London. The film took in nearly $180 million at the domestic box office and more than $330 million worldwide. The original title for the film was INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DEATH. The name "Short Round" is a reference to a character in the 1951 Korean War film THE STEEL HELMET.

Indiana Jones & The Temple Of Doom Reviews:

"...Exuberantly tasteless and entertaining....It moves tirelessly from one ride or attraction to the next..." -- Vincent Canby, New York Times

"...Steven Spielberg has packed even more thrills and chills into this follow-up..." -- Cart., Variety

Action-packed and adventure-filled, RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK is director Steven Spielberg's loving homage to the Saturday matinee cliffhanger serials of his childhood. When the Allies discover the Nazis are planning to use the Lost Ark of the Covenant as a weapon, the U.S. government enlists archaeologist-adventurer Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) to locate the biblical treasure chest where the remains of the broken tablets of the Ten Commandments were placed. En route, Jones and his feisty ex-girlfriend, Marion (Karen Allen), must escape the clutches of evil Nazis, duplicitous "natives," and a nest of venomous snakes--not to mention the wrath of God. The groundbreaking special effects and furious, never-ending pace make for a stylish whirlwind of a movie, topped off with a fabulous sense of humor. This bare-knuckled, barnstorming, pot-boiling, eye-popping bucket of Technicolor popcorn became Paramount Pictures' highest-grossing film, and deservedly so--RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK is quite simple one of the most enjoyable movies ever made.

Theatrical release: June 12, 1981. The film was shot in France, Tunisia, Hawaii, and at EMI Elstree Studios in England. RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK is number 60 on the American Film Institute's list of America's 100 GREATEST MOVIES. RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK was added to the Library of Congress National Film Registry in 1999. Tom Selleck was originally cast as Indiana Jones but was committed to his MAGNUM, P.I. television series. The film grossed more than $240 million at the domestic box office and more than $380 million worldwide. Spielberg wanted to redeem himself after the excessive budget and shooting difficulties of his previous film, 1941, which was a box-office flop. RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK was completed under its budget of $20.4 million and exactly on schedule. Executive producer George Lucas, who had originally created the story idea of a heroic soldier of fortune, directed some second-unit footage in Tunisia. Two successful sequels followed: INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM and INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE.

Indiana Jones & The Raiders Of The Lost Ark Quotes/Excerpts:

"Snakes. Why'd it have to be snakes?"--Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) to Sallah (John Rhys-Davies) "I don't know. I'm making this up as I go."--Jones to Sallah

Indiana Jones & The Raiders Of The Lost Ark Reviews:

"...[A] fantasy-adventure....An exhilarating escapist entertainment....A vibrant and period-perfect world of wonders..." -- Step., Variety

"...Off and running at a breakneck pace....One of the most deliriously funny, ingenious and stylish American adventure movies ever made..." -- Vincent Canby, New York Times

"...One of the classic entertainments....Its foundations are personal, and passionate....The movie is just plain fun....It's done with a kind of heedless joy..." -- Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

Filled with spectacular action and sharp banter, THE MUMMY: TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR finds the dashing Rick and Evelyn O'Connell (Brendan Fraser and Maria Bello, who took over for Rachel Weisz) called upon for another world-saving adventure. The film opens in 50 B.C., when the ruthless Dragon Emperor (Jet Li) seeks to conquer one last enemy, death, and become an immortal ruler. But when the Emperor betrays an obliging sorceress (Michelle Yeoh), he and his army are cursed to spend an eternity in statuesque limbo. Fast forward to 1946, when Rick and Evelyn are struggling to adapt to their self-imposed retirement. But the fates have other plans, and soon the O'Connells are crossing paths with their somewhat estranged son, Alex (Luke Ford). While enthusiastically carrying on the family's tomb-raiding traditions, Alex has unwittingly brought the Dragon Emperor back to life. With the world in peril, the O'Connells must overcome their differences to prevent the Dragon Emperor from gaining immortality for himself and his army. Along the way they're joined by a mysterious young woman (Isabella Leong), a wily pilot, and a trio of Abominable Snowmen. Jumping from Shanghai to the Himalayas to the Chinese desert, director Rob Cohen (THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS) takes audiences on a breathless adventure that continues THE MUMMY's love of quick wits, close calls and big battles. The result is a spirited romp that proves evil is no match against a family united.

Flanked by fabulous computer-generated battle scenes that would make BRAVEHEART proud, THE MUMMY RETURNS is a fast-paced sequel that surpasses the hit 1999 original, both directed by Stephen Sommers. Virtually the entire cast has come back for another exciting go-round, this time trying to prevent Imhotep (Arnold Vosloo) from gaining control of the Bracelet of Anubis and taking on the Scorpion King (the Rock) for control of the world. But to gain that power, Imhotep and his vicious true love, Anck-Su-Namun (Patricia Velasquez), must get to the Oasis of Ahm Shere before Rick O'Connell (Brendan Fraser), his wife, Evie (Rachel Weisz), their son, Alex (Freddie Boath), the mysterious Ardeth Bay (Oded Fehr), and Evie's brother, Jonathan (John Hannah, who provides much of the comic relief). Set in 1933, THE MUMMY RETURNS combines elements of the STAR WARS and INDIANA JONES films in letting loose a scintillating thrill-ride of a movie, chock-full of terrific special effects and marvelous locations (Morocco, Jordan, and London), erupting in a spirited tale of flight and fantasy, sword and sorcery. The addition of Freddie Boath to the cast increases the suspense as well as the comedy; his scenes with the evil Lock-Nah (fiercely played by OZ veteran Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) are among the best in the film. THE MUMMY RETURNS also features professional wrestler the Rock as the Scorpion King, who was defeated in 3067 BC and is ready to be resurrected in the Year of the Scorpion.

Theatrical Release: May 4, 2001

CHARLIE'S ANGELS: FULL THROTTLE reunites Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz, and Lucy Liu as they once again wage battle against some formidable opponents. This time around the three angels are on a mission to track down two stolen rings that contain encrypted information relating to the Witness Protection Program. Naturally the girls kick some serious butt, often facing some familiar villains in the shape of a returning Crispin Glover (as the Thin Man) and Justin Theroux (as Seamus O'Grady), a former beau of Barrymore's character. To further spice things up, there is an ex-angel, played by a shapely Demi Moore, who is rather keen on getting her hands on the rings, all adding up to lots of thrills and spills for the girls. Director McG returns from the original movie, this time upping the action ante with a series of spectacular stunts and CGI-assisted tricks. Employing a neverending array of celebrity cameo appearances, McG builds on the momentum of the previous movie and neatly balances the combination of comedy set pieces and action sequences. Cast and crew keep their tongues planted firmly in their cheeks throughout, leading to a not-too-serious romp that is a feast for the eyes.
